So Many Reasons To Love Alaska

So Many Reasons To Love Alaska
Alaska is a sought-after destination for many of today’s travelers. Cruises are a great way to see this magnificent state. Alaska sailings make it easy to experience the beauty and majesty of The Great Land. Alaska’s stunning vistas are a continual delight during the voyage and historic small towns are easily accessible from your ship.

Alaska features a wealth of memorable places and extraordinary experiences. While some may see Alaska as a once-in-a-lifetime destination, they soon discover that it’s impossible to pack everything Alaska offers into a single vacation. Alaska will keep you coming back for more.

Here are five of the many reasons to love Alaska – all of which can be easily experienced on an Alaska cruise or as part of a land and sea Alaska cruisetour:

Spectacular Scenic Wonders: Alaska has some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. Favorite places include Glacier Bay National Park, Misty Fjords National Monument, Denali National Park, Tracy Arm, and College Fjord. Alaska cruise guests can marvel at massive glaciers calving, enjoy the beauty of Alaska’s Inside Passage, and even keep an eye out for the vivid Northern Lights during certain times of the year.

Amazing Wildlife: There are so many opportunities to see wildlife on an Alaska cruise or a more extended land and sea cruisetour. While in Alaska, I’ve spotted Dall sheep, moose, caribou, black bears, brown bears, bald eagles, and even a lone wolf in Denali National Park. Cruise guests delight in sighting massive humpback whales, killer whales, sea lions, otters, and harbor seals throughout their voyages.

Incredible Experiences: Alaska is full of exciting adventures and bucket-list experiences. Some of these include fishing for Alaskan halibut and salmon, taking a flightseeing trip over Alaska’s majestic mountains, boarding a helicopter to go dog sledding atop a glacier, kayaking through calm Alaskan bays and inlets, riding the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, hiking on a glacier, and taking a river float trip through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Alaska is a place where lifelong memories are waiting to be made.

Culinary Delights: Alaska is a seafood lover’s paradise. On an Alaska cruise or cruisetour, guests can sample multiple types of fire-grilled wild Alaskan salmon, delicious freshly-caught Pacific halibut, sweet Dungeness and snow crab, and colossal king crab legs straight from the docks. Alaska’s wild-caught shrimp, scallops and oysters are popular as well. Alaska is also known for its wild berries including blueberries and raspberries. Don’t miss sampling the state’s craft beers and fireweed honey as well.

Rich History And Culture Alaska’s Inside Passage region was shaped by multiple Alaska Native peoples including the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. Cruise guests can learn about Alaska Native culture at sites such as Saxman Native Village, the Sheldon Museum & Cultural Center, Sitka National Historical Park and Juneau’s Sealaska Heritage Institute. The Klondike Gold Rush is also an important part of Alaska's history. Guests can experience a bit of their own gold rush adventure through shore excursions to places like the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, the Chilkoot Trail, and panning for gold.

No cruise line has explored Alaska longer than Holland America Line, which was named the top choice for cruising in Alaska in the Porthole Cruise Magazine Editor-in-Chief Awards, AFAR Travelers’ Choice Awards and Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards. Holland America Line is celebrating 75 years of sailing in Alaska and the cruise line is well aware of the many reasons to love The Great Land. This year, six Holland America Line ships will explore Alaska, either roundtrip from Seattle, Washington; roundtrip from Vancouver, Canada; or between Whittier, Alaska, and Vancouver.

Every Holland America Alaska cruise includes a visit to one or more of the state’s iconic glacier destinations: Glacier Bay National Park, College Fjord, Hubbard Glacier and Twin Sawyer Glaciers of Tracy Arm. Alaska ports of call include Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and Skagway. For travelers who want to explore more of Alaska, 16 different cruisetours combine an Alaska cruise with an inland exploration of Denali National Park or Canada’s Yukon Territory.

Holland America’s “Love Letters to Alaska” Contest

As a tribute to this remarkable region, Holland America Line has launched a “Love Letters to Alaska” contest this year. Travelers who enter will have the chance to wine one of ten suites on a 2022 Holland America Line cruise to Alaska cruise, including a grand prize Neptune Suite.

Through March 15, 2022, entrants can visit www.loveletterstoalaska.com and let Holland America Line know why they love Alaska or why they wish to journey to Alaska. Entries can be between 25-250 words and can take the form of a poem, a letter, or an inspirational note.

A panel of distinguished judges will select a grand prize winner who will receive a seven-day Alaska cruise for two in a Neptune Suite. The remaining nine first-prize winners voyage on a seven-day Alaska cruise in a Vista or Signature Suite. Contest winners will be chosen in early April and will take their Alaska cruise during the 2022 season.
